REEValue Malta Workshop 2026: Unlocking Energy Savings Across Your Value Chain

On October 1st, 2026, the third and final Malta REEValue workshop titled “Unlocking Energy Savings Across Your Value Chain” took place at the Orchid Room in The Xara Lodge, Rabat, bringing together approximately 21 attendees outside of the project. Moderated by MBB’s Gabriel Cassar, the morning session commenced with registration and a welcome coffee, followed by an introduction from Ing. Rachelle Riolo of the Energy & Water Agency and an overview of the REEValue project’s scope, activities, and outcomes presented by Owen Bell from the Malta Business Bureau. This was followed by a live demonstration of the REEValue Energy Savings Web Tool led by Dr. Alicia Mateos-Cárdenas, Sustainability Lead at Cork Chamber.

The first segment of the session was delivered by AEMS and focused on technical insights and best practices, featuring a presentation and discussion on energy management, climate risks, and opportunities by energy expert Conor Molloy. This was particularly interactive with the audience, with their participation through Slido being very helpful towards facilitating a discussion. Following this segment by AEMS, a best practice showcase on sustainable logistics and customer relationships was given by Jesmond Mifsud of Express Trailers, which concluded with a Q&A session.

After a networking lunch, the second session shifted toward funding and financing opportunities. It featured presentations from Karl Herrera (Malta Enterprise), Mark Muscat (Measures and Support Division), and Joseph Darmanin (Malta Development Bank), followed by updates on the EWA Audit Scheme by Mark Anthony Callus and an introduction to the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) service by Christine Cassar.

The final session focused on the theme of collaborating across value chains and was structured with key expert presentations and closing discussions. The segment began with the online participation of Prof. Ing. Ivan Ferretti, Ph.D., from the Università degli Studi di Brescia, who presented on the broader impact of the REEVALUE project. Following this, Carlo Chizzolini, the representative from Sammontana S.p.A., also joined us online, to speak on the many ongoing initiatives at Sammontana within the realm of sustainability, within the context of value chains, and the REEValue project.
