REEValue workshops in Portugal gather industry leaders to advance decarbonisation in food, beverage, and transport sectors
The Portuguese Industrial Association (AIP) hosted three dedicated workshops in Aveiro on April 8 and 9, 2025, focused on boosting sustainability and competitiveness in the food, beverage, and transport sectors. The events convened Portuguese businesses, public stakeholders, and European experts to explore practical solutions for decarbonising value chains. The opening session featured remarks from António Casimiro (AIP), Mário Xuereb (Malta Chamber of Commerce), and Claude Mercieca (Energy and Water Agency, Malta), the lead entity of the REEValue consortium.
Over two days, three focused sessions tackled key themes:
– Technologies for Decarbonisation – Experts including Adriana Fonseca de Almeida (Veolia), and Catarina Nobre (Valoriza Center) discussed circular economy approaches, renewable gases, and academic contributions to industrial decarbonisation.
– Best Practices in Action – Leading companies such as Lactogal, Casa Mendes Gonçalves, Grupo Luís Vicente, and Santos e Vale shared real-life case studies on reducing emissions while maintaining operational efficiency.
– Financing the Transition – Representatives from the Portuguese Development Bank, Compete 2030, and the Secretariat for the Environment presented funding opportunities through EEA Grants, Portugal 2030, and national financing schemes.
These workshops underlined the importance of cross-sector collaboration, showcasing innovative pathways to reduce carbon emissions while supporting the sustainable growth of key industries.
