On the 13th of October 2025, stakeholders from across Malta’s food and beverage sectors gathered at the Għajn National Water Conservation Centre for the second edition of the REEValue workshop. The workshop, hosted by the Malta Business Bureau (MBB) & The Energy and Water Agency (EWA), explored energy-saving opportunities across the food, beverage, and logistics value chains by bringing together businesses, experts, and other stakeholders to explore how improved collaboration and smarter energy practices can accelerate the transition towards cleaner and more efficient energy use.

Moderated by MBB’s Head of Projects Gabriel Cassar, the workshop gave participants the opportunity to engage with a wide array of insightful presentations and discussions. Notable highlights included a demonstration of the REEValue Energy Savings Tool, our online platform which helps businesses identify practical opportunities to reduce their energy consumption. Further to this, energy expert and REEValue partner Conor Molloy from AEMS shared valuable strategies for implementing energy efficiency measures within operations, while representatives from Golden Harvest, MaltaPost and GSD Co. Ltd. showcased real-world examples of best practices in sustainable energy management from their respective businesses.
Through contributions from the Malta Development Bank and Malta Enterprise, participants also received detailed information on available funding and financing opportunities to support local business, thereby empowering organisations to take concrete steps toward greener operations and become more sustainable.
Moreover, the workshop included contributions from project partners involved in value chain research and implementation. Prof. Ing. Ivan Ferretti from the Università degli Studi di Brescia offered a theoretical perspective on the topic, while Sara Berardino from Sammontana, a leading Italian ice cream manufacturer, provided a practical overview of how value chain principles are applied within Sammontana’s operations, and what benefits there are to engaging with your value chain.
To end the workshop on a collaborative note, a breakout session with participants encouraged open dialogue on how engaging and mobilising value chains can create meaningful sustainability impacts across different sectors.
